Sometimes a sweep in a volleyball match is far more competitive than the term ‘sweep’ makes it sound. Such is the case in the match Thursday night between the Christian County Lady Colonels and the Hopkins County Central Lady Storm in Mortons Gap.
Christian County came away with the straight-set win, but it was far from an easy night for the Lady Colonels.
The Lady Colonels opened the night by taking the first set 25-23 to go up one set to none.
The second set was another tight battle that came down to the final points. Again, it was the Lady Colonels taking the set, this time 25-22 to take a two set to none lead in the match.
Christian County completed the sweep in the third set, but again, it was a battle down to the wire with the Lady Colonels outlasting the Lady Storm 25-23 to take the match three sets to none.
Izzy Hight came up with a big night in the loss for the Lady Storm, finishing with 18 assists, 9 digs, 3 aces, and two kills. Calajia Mason added 7 kills and four digs. Mallory Wagoner finished the night with 6 kills, 18 digs, and 3 aces.
Christian County improves 11-15 with the win. The Lady Colonels will host Webster County a week from Monday in Colonel Gym.
Hopkins County Central falls to 10-12. Up next for the Lady Storm is a match against Trigg County, also a week from Monday.
