Six goals in the first 15 minutes on Tuesday sent the Todd County Central boys’ soccer team to an 8-0 victory over Russellville and a spot in Thursday’s 13th-District championship against Franklin-Simpson.

It will be the third straight season the Rebels and Franklin-Simpson meet in the final, with the Wildcats taking both previous matches by a single goal.

John Ross Cardwell got the Rebels started with a header off a Chris Salazar corner kick, and just seconds later, Cardwell provided the assist for Tanner Henderson to double the advantage.

Salazar hammered home the third goal from the top of the box, and Sam Perez scored at the back post off a cross from Tyler Baker to make it 4-0.

Henderson added his second goal off another Salazar assist before goalkeeper John Mark Campbell found the back of the net with a penalty kick after a Russellville handball in the box.

Two minutes into the second half, Baker sent in another inviting cross that Charlie Campbell volleyed home for a 7-0 score.

A red card reduced Russellville to ten players midway through the half, and Todd Central closed out the game on Cardwell’s second strike with help from Gage White.

Campbell made four saves for the Rebels to record his seventh shutout.

Todd Central improved to 13-4-2 and booked its spot in next week’s 4th Region tournament.

Russellville ended the season at 10-12, including three losses to the Rebels.
