A goal just 27 seconds into the second half proved to be all the offense University Heights Academy would need to win the 8th District championship Thursday night.

The Blazers would tack on a late goal for good measure, and defeated Christian County 2-0 for UHA’s fifth-straight district title.

UHA (14-7) had the better scoring opportunities all night, outshooting the Colonels 19-6. However, Christian battled to a scoreless tie at halftime at Givens Field on the University Heights campus.

Calvin Givens broke the deadlock, though, when he took a pass from Logan Miller and hammered home a shot from in the box to get the Blazers on the scoreboard.

UHA essentially put the game away when Hayden Hunt scored with help from Griffin McCoy with 7:30 left in the contest.

Eli Finch needed to make just two saves for University Heights to earn the shutout.

Mason Malone recorded 11 stops in the Christian County net.

The Blazers won the regular-season matchup with the Colonels 3-2 before getting Christian again in the district finale.

Both UHA and Christian County (12-7) advance to next week’s 2nd Region tournament, which will be played at the Stadium of Champions in Hopkinsville.
