
Just like clockwork, the Henderson County Colonels are back in the 2nd Region semifinals. The Colonels advanced Monday night with a 4-0 win over the Chrisitan County Colonels in the quarterfinal round of the 2024 region tourney.
Under the current regional soccer alignment, which came into being in 2012, Henderson County has reached at least the regional semifinals for now 13 straight seasons.
Monday night, it was the Henderson County defense, especially in the middle of the field that told the story, as the northern Colonels did not allow Christian County a shot on goal for the match while getting 20 of their own.
Henderson got on the scoreboard at the 4:39 mark when Alex Bowley found the net while in the middle of congested traffic right in front of the net,
The northern Colonels extended the lead to 2-0 at 16:40. Jax Benton received a perfect header after a long direct kick. Benton then directed the ball into the net for the second goal of the night for Henderson County.
Christian County’s defense was able to contain Henderson County for the rest of the half as the two teams went into the break still at 2-0.
Alex Bowley scored his second goal of the night at 45:30 to push the Henderson County lead out to 3-0.
Carson Weiss then sealed the win for Henderson with a goal at 49:45.
Christian County junior goalie Mason Malone had a solid effort in goal for the southern Colonels despite being under fire from the Henderson County attack throughout the match.
Christian County finishes the year at 12-8.
Henderson County improves to 14-3-4 and moves on to Tuesday night’s semifinals, where the Colonels will take on the team that has beaten them in the last two regional championship matches, the Madisonville-North Hopkins Maroons.
