Heading into the 4th Region semifinals Tuesday evening, the Todd County Central Rebels knew they were facing a tall challenge in the form of the Bowling Green Purples. Turns out the Purples are just as good as advertised.
Bowling Green scored six goals in the first half and then added two more in the first 17 minutes of the second half as they rolled past the Rebels 8-0 to advance on to the 4th Region championship match.
The Purples came into the evening having given up just five goals all season long. The only ‘blemish’ on their record was a 1-1 tie against 3rd Region power Daviess County. And they quickly let the Rebels know they were the real deal.
The Todd County Central defense held the Purples at bay for the first 10 minutes of the match, but eventually, the Rebel defense wore down against the high-power pressure of the Bowling Green attack.
The Rebels got a couple of runout opportunities from Tanner Henderson in the second half but could not convert and the Purples were then able to close out the match due to the 8-goal rule.
Todd County Central sees its season come to an end at 15-5-2.
Bowling Green improves to 17-0-1. The Purples move on to the regional championship match where they will take on South Warren. The Spartans advanced with a 2-1 win over Franklin-Simpson.
