A pair of teams on late-season rolls squared off Thursday night at the CAB gym in Princeton, but it was Union County that continued its winning ways.

The Bravettes blitzed Caldwell County in three sets, avenging a 3-0 loss to the Lady Tigers early in the season and spoiling Senior Night at CCHS.

Caldwell (15-8) had won eight of its previous nine matches. Meanwhile, Union (13-7) has now taken eight of its last nine outings following the win.

The Bravettes rarely trailed in any set, capturing a 25-16, 25-20, 25-14 victory over the Lady Tigers.

Both teams will be the No. 1 seeds in their respective district tournaments next week — Union in the 6th and Caldwell in the 7th — and both have already earned bids to the 2nd Region tournament the following week at Hopkinsville.

The Bravettes are just three years removed from a winless season, going 0-20 in 2021. However, Union has emerged as a dark horse this season for the regional championship.

The Bravettes carry a four-match winning streak into Monday’s 6th District tournament at Henderson County.

Thursday’s win was just Union’s fourth in 21 all-time meetings with Caldwell.

The Lady Tigers will try to regroup on Saturday when they play three matches at Todd County Central, facing the host Lady Rebels along with Owensboro Catholic and Graves County.

The 7th District tourney is Monday and Tuesday at Madisonville-North Hopkins.

Seniors Rylee Thompson and Brylee Butts each had nine kills for Caldwell in the setback on Thursday. Thompson also had 13 digs while Butts had a block and three digs.

Senior Benashka Thomas had six kills while classmate Anna Giltz had 17 digs and one ace. Senior Morgan Aikins had 11 digs and an ace.

Kylee White recorded 26 assists, 12 digs, three kills and a block. Mycah Riddle tallied 25 digs, two assists and an ace.

Chevy McGowan had two kills, six digs and an assist. Maddie Cooper had five digs, Tink Clark three digs and Medeline Thomas had one dig.
