
The Todd County Central Lady Rebels opened the volleyball season with a tough loss on the road to Muhlenberg County. Thursday night, the Lady Rebels came up just a little bit short in their effort to return the favor to the Lady Mustangs in Elkton.
Muhlenberg County ended a five-match losing skid by sneaking past the Lady Rebels in a five-set battle.
The Lady Mustangs early on looked as if they would make a short night of it. Muhlenberg County won the first set 25-17 and then the second 25-22 to go up two sets to none.
Facing a sweep on their home floor, the Lady Rebels came battling back.
Todd County Central won the third set 25-18 and then took the fourth set 25-20 to even the match at two sets each and force the deciding short fifth set.
But the momentum they had built in the previous two sets did not carry over into the fifth for the Lady Rebels. Muhlenberg County was able to take the match by winning the final set 15-10.
Allyssa Wofford let the Lady Rebel attack with 14 kills. Aubri Penick added 10 for Todd County Central.
Shelby Holderman finished with 32 assists, giving her 488 for the season. She will likely go over 500 as the Lady Rebels play four matches at home on Saturday.
The Lady Rebels drop to 15-13 for the year. They will close out the regular season at home Saturday with matches against Owensboro Catholic, Graves County, Caldwell County, and Greenwood.
