Louisville commit Grace Mbugua tore her ACL at a basketball camp in early June to put her playing status for the 2024-25 season in jeopardy.
However, about four months after the injury, Danville Christian Academy coach Billy Inmon says his star player is way ahead of schedule with her rehab.
“If you watched her, you would never know she had surgery,” the DCA coach said. “LSU and several other schools are wanting to know more about her surgeon and the procedure because she is recovering so quickly. She has not hardly had any pain.
“She looks quick. She is doing ball handling drills with us. She is three months out from surgery and is shooting 3’s and her shot looks beautiful. You just can’t believe how quick and athletic she is already this close to the surgery.”
Mbugua, the state’s leading rebounder the last three years, goes into her senior season with 1,527 career rebounds along with 2,007 career points. No girl in Kentucky has ever reached 2,000 points and rebounds even though Bethlehem’s Leah Macy should reach that mark this season.
Inmon said Mbugua’s surgeon is still sticking to a six-month timeline for her return but has admitted she’s ahead of schedule.
“It does look like she should be ready in time for the McDonald’s All-American committee to come watch her,” Inmon said. “She is working her tail off. Her work ethic is unbelievable. I am not surprised she is ahead of schedule but I am surprised she is looking this good.
“She is hitting goals every day to build more muscle and be quicker. She is watching her diet. She is super self disciplined and it is really paying off for her.”

It would help for those of us who have not followed this young lady in her high school career if the article could include information such as, her height and what position she plays on the floor. That should be repeated in all articles that you’re writing about players. Let us know those important stats. Appreciate the points and rebound stats, but it would help if you would indicate the former about the player.
She is a 6-5 center. Fair point Dugan
