
Madisonville-North Hopkins will get a rubber match with Caldwell County in the 7th District championship contest.
The Lady Maroons advanced Monday by turning back Hopkins County Central 3-1 in the lone semifinal tilt at Madisonville-North Hopkins High School.
The Lady Maroons won the first two sets, but then had to rally in the fourth after the Lady Storm stole some momentum by taking the third set.
In the end, Madisonville earned a 25-17, 25-19, 15-25, 25-21 decision to extend its season with a bid in the district title tilt and a berth in the 2nd Region tournament next week.
The Lady Maroons (9-22) will take on top-seeded Caldwell (17-9) in Tuesday’s 6 p.m. final in Maroon Gym.
Madisonville won on its home court over Caldwell in five sets on Sept. 5 before the Lady Tigers claimed a 3-0 decision over the Lady Maroons less than two weeks later in Princeton.
Leah Moody and Mackenzie Stoltz helped lead the Madisonville charge against Hopkins Central.
Moody recorded 15 kills, 23 digs and three aces while Stoltz had 13 kills, 11 digs and an ace.
Keira Williams had 30 assists along with a kill, a block, 13 digs and two aces. Myla Hughes had five kills and a block.
Morgan Buntin had three kills and one dig while Sydney Skeen had seven aces and one kill. Katie Beth Sutton recorded 13 digs and an ace.
Madisonville also got three digs from Avery Rudd and one dig from Carlee Sandidge.
Down 2-0, Hopkins Central made a game of it by taking the last nine points of the third set for the 25-15 triumph.
The Lady Storm then led 15-12 in the fourth set, but Madisonville won six straight points to go in front. The Lady Maroons then took six of the last eight points to finish off the match.
For Hopkins Central, Calajia Mason had eight kills, four blocks and three aces while Izzy Gunn had five kills and five blocks.
Mallory Wagoner had five kills and a block along with three digs. Lyla Fortener had nine digs and an ace.
Izzy Hight had four kills, three digs and an ace. Emma Hight had three assists and two digs.
The Lady Storm ends the season with a 12-13 mark.
