
For the second straight year, the Hopkinsville Lady Tigers cross country team brought home a region runner-up finish trophy.
The Lady Tigers put three runners in the top 10 at Saturday’s Class 2A Region 1 cross country meet at Marshall County High School.
Hopkinsville’s team score of 46 points was 16 points behind region champion Calloway County.
Lauren Mayes had the top time for Hopkinsville, finishing the 3.1-mile course in 20:30, good for third place. Alexis Herrera-Lovato made her way through the field to finish in 8th place with a time of 22:35 and Kaydon Coats was 10th in 22:58.
Senior Rebecca Wood finished in 12th place in 23:14 and sophomore Evelyn Bangart continued to take her times lower as she ran a 23:17 to finish in 13th place.
Seventh grader Amerah Acree was 24th in her third varsity race with a personal best time of 26:52 and Luanna Acree was 28th in 29:06.
Calloway County’s Vayla Carlisle won the race with a time of 19:37 seconds, the only runner to break the 20-minute barrier.
Last year the Lady Tigers finished in second place at the region for the program’s first region trophy in 44 years. Now they’ll make a return trip to the state meet this Saturday at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.
