Nothing is Going Right for Kentucky Football (W/ Photos)

Kentucky football has hit what is possibly an all-time low for the Mark Stoops era, falling to 3-5 on the season after their loss to Auburn over the weekend.

The Wildcats are in serious danger of missing out on a bowl game appearance for the first time in eight seasons.

Stoops and his team have completed their home slate of SEC opponents for this season and finish the fall winless in that category, with daunting matchups at Tennessee and at Texas looming two of the next four weeks.

Kentucky is a mess on both sides of the ball, with their offensive woes being the theme of the season and now their defense dealing with injuries to key players leading to bad performances in back to back games.

While he isn’t directly saying it, Stoops is more than giving the indication that the team doesn’t have an exact solution to salvage the season. Going into the year, Kentucky already had what was viewed as a difficult schedule and mishandling games they should have won has only made that schedule much, much worse.

Other than their home matchup against Murray State, the rest of the season doesn’t appear to be very pretty for the Wildcats. That grueling stretch will begin Saturday when Kentucky travels to Tennessee, with kickoff set for 7:45 PM ET.

  1. NOW IS THE TIME when the UK AD may be dishing out yet another SECRET CONTRACT…
    Remember…
•• TLT got a SECRET EXTENSION
You know, the guy who NEVER recruited even one player who made it to the FF
    •• FRAUD got a SECRET LIFE-TIME GIFT
You know, the fraud who said draft day was bigger than National Champions, bigger than Rupp, Hall & Pitino, because it was the biggest day in UK history.

  2. IT COULD BE WORSE !!! REALLY !!!

I recall Homecoming 1966 when Houston pounded UK at Stoll Field 56-0 or some such score.

  3. I feel for Coach Stoops. I truly do. He seems like a man that is defeated; at the end of his rope; no answers.
I also feel that Stoops has brought much of this upon himself. He went against his better judgement and hired Wolford back. He selected Hamdan as his OC. An OC that Missouri didn’t try to hang on to after his short stint filling in as OC. The same person that lead Boise State to their worst finish since 1998 but a team the new OC has led to a 1 loss season so far this year.
Stoops makes bad mistakes on hiring for the offensive side of the ball. He should really look at letting someone else make those decisions or do it by committee. Having said that, I think Stoops himself has no idea what he truly wants on the offensive side of the ball other than to get up by 1 point and hold on with the defense to run clock. This is the same coach that complained about Shannon Dawson wanting to score too quickly, so he fired him.

    1. Stoops still coaches the way the game was played 30 years ago. He hires assistants who adhere to that same philosophy. Stoops hates change of any kind. Stoops has elevated our program from the cellar it used to be in, had a good 5 year run, but now we are right back in the SEC cellar again. The rejection from Texas A&M messed with his head and it hasn’t cleared yet. It’s time for Kentucky football to move on.

  4. At what point does the AD step in and tell the HC he is clueless about offense and needs guidance. Needs to get Bob Stoops to oversee hiring an OC. Well, it’s too late now.

  5. Could it be that the players have more talent than the coaching staff? Its not like the old days. The kids are street savvy and they network. They see and hear what other programs are doing and how they are approaching football. They compare what they see and hear with what the coaching staff is saying and directing. There is a disconnect and the players are running around in their own directions vs the "team’s" direction. Confusion and no buy-in.

    1. Players definitely have more talent and understanding of the game than at least 1/2 of the coaching staff! Throw in the AD as a disconnect bonus & UK wins 2 of the last 13 SEC home games!
