With the start of the 2024-2025 basketball season now just a month away, the Madisonville-North Hopkins Maroons are focusing in on preparations for what they hope will be their first 2nd Region championship since the 2019-2020 season. The Maroons will officially open the season December 3.

The schedule for the Maroons this season should get them well-prepared for a postseason run. It includes matchups with two teams that reached the semifinals of last season’s Sweet 16.

In fact, the Maroons will get a strong rest right out of the gate, as they open the season on the road against regional contender University Heights Academy. They follow that up two nights later against Evangel Christian, who reached the semifinals of the state tournament last season before losing to eventual runner-up Harlan County.

Other road games for Madisonville this season include trips to defending state champ Lyon County and to Caverna, who won the 5th Region All A Classic last season.

The home schedule for the Maroons has some marquee contests this season. In addition to the game against Evangel Christian, Madisonville-North Hopkins will take on Warren Central. The Dragons won the 4th Region championship last season before losing to Harlan County in the opening round of the Sweet 16. There are also games with Christian County, Henderson County, Hopkinsville, Webster County, Muhlenberg County, and Owensboro Catholic.

The Maroons will face Millington Central High School in an early season event December 14 in Murray.

The usual run of the 7th District could be especially testing this season with Caldwell County, Dawson Springs, and Hopkins County Central, all expecting to be improved this season.

The Maroons will host Owensboro November 30 in a preseason scrimmage.

Madisonville-North Hopkins finished last season at 18-16, losing to eventual state champ Lyon County in the region semifinals. It marked the 5th time in the last six seasons that the Maroons have reached the regional semis. In those six seasons, they won two titles and finished as runner-up once.
