
The Hopkins County Central cross country team brought home a top 20 finish from the Class 2A State Meet on Saturday.
The Storm finished with 490 points to place 18th, five points behind 17th-place Boyle County, and 23 points behind 16th-place Mercer County.
Freshman Landon Posey was the first HCCHS runner across the finish line in 42nd place with a time of 18:01. He was 128th last year in 19:57.
Running in his first state meet, eighth grader Kaiden Devargas came in 96th place at 19:10.
Like Posey, Sam Martin also showed a huge margin of improvement over his state meet run from last year. Martin ran a 19:20 to finish in 106th place. Last year, he was 197th in 21:20.
Todd Payne and Alex Ray ran together for most of the race, both crossing in a time of 20:01. Payne was 150th and Ray 151st. Payne ran at state last year and was 180th in 20:52 while Ray was 199th last year in 21:21.
Dominic Vignone was 167th in a time of 20:20 and Jaxon Adcock was 176th in 20:32. Adcock also ran at state last year and knocked 23 seconds off of that time.
