Two teams that have had similar struggles this season will square off Friday night in the opening round of the Class 6A playoffs. The Christian County Colonels are on the road to Cecilia Friday as the #3 seed in District One and will take on the #2 seed out of District Two, the Central Hardin Bruins.

Both teams have seen difficulties scoring points and slowing down other teams’ offenses during the season. Christian County (1-9) has scored 149 points while giving up 437. Central Hardin (2-8) has scored fewer points at 118, but the Bruins have also given up fewer points with 349.

Central Hardin figures to try and grind their way past the Colonels. The Bruins average 184.8 yards rushing per contest and only 43.4 yards through the air.

Gage Gergely leads the Bruins on the ground with 574 yards and 6 touchdowns. Seth Laudermilt is Central Hardin’s second-leading rusher with 446 yards and two scores.

The Bruins have only attempted 68 passes on the year, 65 of those coming from the arm of Caleb Irwin, who is just 20 of 65 for 434 yards with 2 touchdowns and 5 interceptions.

Christian County is on the opposite end of the spectrum from the Bruins. The Colonels average 153.6 yards a game through the air while rushing for just 81.5 per contest.

Jaiden Williams is 91 of 202 for 1,369 yards and 13 touchdowns. He has been picked off 18 times. Eight of those touchdown passes have been caught by Josh Bridges.

Tristan Dillard is Christian County’s leading rusher with 393 yards and three touchdowns. Quarterback Jaiden Williams and Zyon Wharton each have 158 rushing yards for the season.

Christian County’s win came on the road at Daviess County, while Central Hardin has wins over Warren Central and Barren County. Both teams lost games to Bowling Green and Henderson County.

The two teams met last season in the opening round of the Class 6A playoffs with the Bruins coming up with the win.
