One thing immediately stood out to Kentucky fan Gina Potter at Hoops & Heels Friday night with the Kentucky men’s basketball program and coach Mark Pope compared to past women’s clinics she had attended.

“This one seemed more personable. The smaller groups made it easier to interact with the staff, players and their families,” Potter said. “They also held a short session with film study clips explaining basketball terminology and scouting reports for each of our players.”

Pope and his wife Lee Anne along with their four daughters were co-hosts for the event along with Pope’s players.

“All of the players were friendly and presented themselves as gentlemen,” Potter said.

Potter said players Lamont Butler and Andrew Carr impressed her the most.

“They stood out to me because they are so mature and well spoken,” Potter, who admits she “ loves all things BBN,” said.

Potter was impressed with the prizes given away to clinic participants. She called the prizes “top notch” this year.

“Everything from gift cards to high end restaurants, to court side tickets to basketball games, to a one-of-a-kind basketball jersey made specifically for the Popes’ first women’s clinic

What helped set the clinic apart from previous ones at Kentucky was the presence of Lee Anne Pope and her daughters — Ella, Avery, Layla and Shay.

“They were very approachable and made you feel as if they had known you for years. They were extremely generous with their time and engagement,” Potter said “Their presence adds an incredible amount to the program because, just like their parents, they truly care about the fans of BBN and they show it by being their real authentic selves when engaging with fans.

“Lee Anne and Mark have done an excellent job raising these strong beautiful young women. Lee Anne is not only a good role model for her daughters but for every woman. She is what every female should strive to be in life. She is the perfect combination of grace and badasser.”
