Todd County Central was looking to make it back-to-back trips to the KHSAA state cheerleading competition but was tripped up by the smallest of margins.
The Lady Rebels finished in 6th place at the Regions 3/4 competition on Saturday at Barren County High School. Their score of 86.00 was a tenth of a point behind 5th place Warren Central in the Game Day Small division. The number of teams entered in each division determines how many from each region advance to state. There were 16 teams from Regions 3 and 4 in the Game Day Small division, meaning only five teams advanced to state.
Todd Central’s score of 86.00 would have been good enough for a top-three finish and state qualification in three other regions statewide that competed on Saturday.
Barren County (91.50) won the division with Franklin-Simpson (89.10) second, Apollo (86.60) third, and Greenwood (87.70) fourth.
Todd Central advanced to state last year following a fourth-place finish at region. The school won back-to-back region titles in 2012 and 2013 in the All-Girls Large division and brought home top 10 finishes at the state competition both times.
