Austin Spears was one of five Lyon County High School seniors to sign to play college baseball Wednesday afternoon in Eddyville.
Spears will play at Northeast Mississippi Community College after his senior season with the Lyons in 2025.
Spears hit .390 for the Lyons in 2024 as a junior with a team-high 10 home runs and 40 runs batted in. Fifteen of his 32 hits went for extra bases.
Spears also won three games on the mound with a 4.47 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 15 innings.
While Spears was signing with Northeast Mississippi, John Bingham inked with Mississippi State, Eli Baker with Radford, Peyton Williams with Western Kentucky and Korben Lucas with Frontier in a ceremony at Jason White Gymnasium.
Northeast Mississippi Community College competes in the National Junior College Athletic Association and is a member of the Iowa Community College Athletic Association.
The program had two former players — Aidan Foeller and Colby Holcombe — taken in the 2024 Major League Baseball Draft.
