Kentucky beat Wofford 76-42 Tuesday and limited Wofford to only 20.3 percent shooting (14 of 69) from the field.
The Cats jumped in front 34-11 and never were pressured. However, coach Kenny Brooks was not totally pleased with his team’s defensive performance.
“I thought they were a little bit better, but still I thought we had a couple of situations that we could’ve gotten better in,” said Brooks about his team’s defensive communication. “So, again it’s not going to be perfect the way we are right now. We’ve got to continue to get better incrementally each game, and I think we got a little better.
“Again, when you play teams like we’ve played so far, they play their butts of to spread you out and they don’t really play their typical offensive style. I think last game they shot 13 3’s, and then they shot 30 tonight, so that was clearly the game plan.
“Spread everybody out and see what they can do shooting from long range. I didn’t get to see as much as I would’ve liked because they were running some really good stuff.”
While Kentucky took Wofford out of several things it wanted to do, that led to different issues.
“They resorted to trying to go one-on-one and attack our bigs. I thought we did a good job of handling that,” Brooks said. “We are never going to be quick, especially against a small group like that. You are playing five guards.
“I thought we contested at the rim, lost a little bit of focus, and gave up some offensive rebounds, but we knew they were going to shoot the 3, and they launched them, and they ran to get them, so we got to get better at that.”
Kentucky returns to action Saturday night when it hosts rival Louisville.
