Defense Powers Calloway County Past Maroons in Saturday Scrimmage (w/VIDEO)

A strong defensive effort by Calloway County allowed the Lakers to break open a close game in the third quarter and pull away to a 56-33 scrimmage win over the Madisonville-North Hopkins Maroons Saturday at the CFSB Center at Murray State University.

The Maroons, who were playing their second scrimmage of the day while the Lakers were playing their first, took a 13-10 lead after the opening quarter. The Lakers finished the second quarter with a 9 to 2 run to go up 26-22 at the half.

The Calloway defense then limited Madisonville-North Hopkins to just six points in the third quarter as the Lakers ran out to a 48-28 lead to end the quarter. The Lakers scored the final 10 points of the quarter.

The defensive pressure continued to cause problems for the Maroons in the final quarter as Calloway County pulled out to the 23-point win.
