A late comeback bid by Christian County’s girls fell just short against Daviess County on Saturday.

The Lady Colonels trailed by 14 points entering the fourth quarter, but whittled the margin down to three points before falling 51-42.

The game was one of five preseason contests in Madisonville in the third annual Rise Up Know Her Name Pan-O-Rama at Madisonville-North Hopkins High School.

One unique aspect of the event is that all games are played with an Elam Ending.

Under that format, teams finish the contest playing to a target score. At the first dead ball under 3:00 to play, the target score is set at seven points above the leading team’s current point total. The clock is then turned off, and the game continues until one team reaches the target score.

Christian trailed 44-33 when the target score was set at 51. The Lady Colonels got as close as 45-42 before the Lady Panthers held on.

Ne’Vaeh Day had 18 points to pace Christian County. Anaysia Bagwell and D’Ebony Anderson each had seven points. DaNiya Bradley had six. Genesis McGee and Lazarie Daniel had two points apiece.

Lily Hoagland led Daviess with 27 points.

The regular season for high school basketball teams around the commonwealth begins the first week of December.
