The Dawson Springs Panthers kept climbing the hill but could not quite get to the top in their scrimmage against St. Mary Saturday at the CFSB Center in Murray. Vikings senior Luke Sims hit a runner in the lane just ahead of the final horn as St. Mary took a 47-45 win.
After trailing by 9 points in the first half, the Panthers kept coming back and coming back, but could never get to the lead in the second half of play. They would close in and then slip back and then have it happen again. The only time they were able to pull even was at 45-45 late in the 4th quarter, just in time to have St. Mary rip the game away.
St.Mary led 14-9 after the first quarter and continued to hold a five-point lead at the half at 30-25.
Dawson Springs kept coming after the Vikings and pulled to within one at the end of the third quarter at 38-37.
Montgomery Johnston had a big game for the Panthers with 29 points. Rex Blue added 10.
