A good start to the preseason over the weekend for the Hopkinsville Tigers. The Tigers were at Fairdale High School for a scrimmage against Oldham County and came away with a win over the Colonels.
Hopkinsville won two of the four quarters played, lost one, and tied the other. When all quarters were added up, the Tigers outscored the Colonels 70-60 for the scrimmage.
Oldham County took the opening quarter 14-9. The two teams then played to a 13-13 draw in the second quarter. From there, it was Hopkinsville controlling the rest of the contest.
The Tigers put up 30 points and outscored Oldham County 30 to 23 in the third. The Hopkinsville defense limited the Colonels to just 10 points in the final quarter and took the quarter 18-10.
Freshman Jonovan Leavell led the Tigers with 24 points. Artavius Moses pulled down 8 rebounds and Layton Giltner snagged 7. Jarae Leavell added 6 assists and 3 steals to the Hopkinsville effort.
The Tigers final preseason scrimmage will be Thursday evening at home against the Owensboro Red Devils. Tipoff time is set for 6:00pm.
