Otega Oweh continues to be Kentucky’s most consistent offensive player but coach Mark Pope didn’t like everything about his play against Jackson State Friday.
“The only time I got mad at Otega today was when he was celebrating with his guys too much after a play and not running transition defense,” Pope said after the win. “He’s really special. I have to stop talking about him because he started to get a big head back here, you know what I’m saying?”
Otega was 8-for-12 from the field and 4-for-4 at the foul line to score 21 points to go with three steals, two assists and no turnovers.
“When he kind of does that every single night. He gets us off to unbelievable starts every single night,” Pope said. “He’s got physicality and a joy about him. I think he’s been incredible.
“I’m really proud of him. One of the things that all of us are working on growing and one of the things that he has been focusing on growing is being an every day, every play guy. Man, he’s probably been our most consistent guy in games. And that is a massive tribute to him.
“Coach (Mark) Fox works with him a lot. I’m just really proud of him and he’s just bringing joy to every single game.”

He is a fun one to watch. I like how he never seems to let up.
Never ever lets up

It’s great to have happy players!
I luv my team!!!!
Great article, Larry. Oweh has been my favorite on this team since the first exhibition game. His motor never stops, and he seems to be having so much fun on the court and off.
He has been sensational Pete
Maybe it’s just me but, but last nights crowd was eerily silent or my hearing aid batteries died, where was the support of the crowd the only time heard them was when in the second half they were wanting to get their chicken sandwich. Pitiful!!!
