New Trigg County basketball coach Michael Fraliex was looking for his team to do one thing in Tuesday night’s scrimmage against Murray – compete.

He felt like he got what he was looking for in the Wildcats’ first and only preseason outing.

The teams played four 10-minute quarters with a running clock. Murray won the first quarter 21-20 and took the second 22-15. The Tigers also ended with a 17-14 advantage in the third. Trigg outscored Murray 17-15 in the fourth quarter. Add ‘em up and you get a 75-66 Murray win.

“What I was proud of most is that our guys competed. We dove. We played hard. We played unselfish. We did a good job throwing ahead,” Fraliex said. “We turned it over too much, but those are all little things that we can fix. I told them all I’ll ever ask of you is that you compete. I don’t care if we win or lose, just compete. And they competed tonight.”

Murray, coached by former Trigg assistant coach Jimmie Holder, hit five 3-pointers in the first frame and built an early lead.

Caleb Fogle knocked down both of his 3-pointers in the opening quarter for the Wildcats and finished with 12 points.

Jeremiah Jones, who has committed to the University of Nebraska for football, scored six of his 12 points in the second frame for the Tigers.

Lance Breckel scored 10 of his 14 points in the fourth quarter for the Wildcats, who got a game-high 22 points and 11 rebounds from Davaree Gude.

Murray finished with 11 3-pointers with Acey Stricklin knocking down five and finishing with 19 points. Harris Moore added 15 points.

The Wildcats had five 3-pointers.

“We just need to trust the process. Our system is fun to play. We aren’t shooting the ball well right now but I think we’ll shoot a higher percentage from three. We need to get more threes up because we do have some guys who can shoot,” Fraliex said.

Trigg County will open the 2024-25 season on Monday at St. Mary.
