KyKy Tandy reached another milestone in his outstanding basketball career on Saturday, scoring his 1,000th career collegiate point.

Tandy, a graduate player for Florida Atlantic University, hit a 3-pointer with 1:08 left in the first half – his third 3-pointer of the half – to give him 1,000 points.

The former University Heights Academy All-State guard is in his first season with the Owls, who lost to Florida Gulf Coast 80-78. Tandy shared the floor with former Lyon County guard Jack Reddick, who is a freshman at FGCU.

Tandy hit a game-tying 3-pointer with under a half-minute left but FGCU hit a shot at the buzzer to win the game. Tandy finished with 15 points on 5-of-12 shooting from behind the arc.

It’s the second time this season Tandy has played against a former Second Region standout. His FAU Owls lost to Charleston 119-116 in double-overtime on Nov. 15. Tandy had 15 points against Caldwell County graduate Derrin Boyd, who tallied 18 points.

For the season, Tandy is averaging 10.5 points and shooting 40% behind the 3-point arc.

Tandy led Conference USA in scoring last year at Jacksonville State at 17.8 points and was named First-Team All-Conference after scoring 571 points.

Tandy played three seasons at Xavier University. He started strong where he averaged 6.7 points in 25 games and was named to the Big East All-Freshman Team.

As a sophomore, Tandy saw his playing time decrease by four minutes a game yet he still averaged 6.6 points a game.

The following year, Tandy played in just five games due to a foot injury and received a medical redshirt.

In 2022-23, a healthy Tandy only saw 10 minutes of action a game and scored just 48 points in 22 games before leaving for Jacksonville State after the season.

At UHA, Tandy started as a middle schooler and scored 3,363 points in his career which still ranks in the top 10 in Kentucky High School history.
