Once again, the Lyons got the best of the Black Bears. While the stakes were nowhere near as high as they were the night of March 23 at Rupp Arena, the Lyon County Lyons picked up a 78-71 win over Harlan County Saturday in the Zip Zone Classic at Martin County High School.

The preseason scrimmage was a rematch of the 2024 state championship game, which Lyon County won 67-58 to pick up the program’s first state championship.

Four Lyons hit double figures in the contest led by Bray Kirk, who finished the scrimmage with 23 points. Kirk scored 11 of his 23 in the fourth quarter.

Cooper Collins added 19 points for Lyon County. He knocked down three shots from behind the 3-point line.

Nolan Coffman, who transferred to Lyon County from Madisonville over the summer, chipped in with 12 points, including two 3-pointers. Carson Collins also hit double figures with 11.

The Lyons will begin defense of their state championship Tuesday night on the road at Murray.
