Preston Birrell knows his days on the high school gridiron are behind him. He spent four years on the Caldwell County football team, being the team’s starting center as a junior and a senior.
But while he will no longer be helping the Tiger offense engineer scoring drives, engineering is still very much in his future.
Birrell plans to attend the University of Kentucky Pigman College of Engineering program next fall and major in mechanical engineering.
While a lot of his time during his school days has been devoted to football, Birrell still has managed to excel in the classroom.
His academic highlights include:
• National Honor Society – member for sophomore, junior and senior years – Parliamentarian for junior and senior years
• Gifted and Talented program for language arts
• Dual credit/AP student/4.0 student
• FFA member – 4 years
• School Wide Achievement Team (SWAT) – junior year
• Impact team – senior year
In addition, Birrell has been generous with his free time, volunteering at youth football camps, Community Disciples tutoring, Westlake Community Day, Free Clinic Cookie Walk, and the Caldwell Medical Center/Morgan’s Breast Cancer Awareness 5k.
Birrell works for Lively H Farms, helping with crops, livestock, and equipment.
He is also an active member at Southside Baptist Church, where he is a children’s church volunteer, serves as an usher, is an actor in the annual walk-through drama, and has served in the food ministry.
Preston is the son of Ivan and Cindy Birrell.
