Three players hit double figures but it was not quite enough for the Hopkinsville Tigers Monday night. The Tigers opened the 2024-2025 season with a tough 58-57 overtime loss on the road at Ohio County.
This one early on gave indication of just what kind of game it was going to be. The Eagles took a 17-15 lead after the first quarter.
The Tigers’ defense limited Ohio County to just 9 points in the second quarter as Hopkinsville battled back to take a 27-26 lead at the break.
Hopkinsville got a big third quarter from Layton Giltner and pushed the lead out to 42-40 heading into the final eight minutes of regulation.
Ohio County held the Tigers to just three field goals in the fourth and found a way to come back and tie the game at 51-51 heading into overtime. The Eagles were then able to do just enough to take the one point win in overtime.
James Bradley led the Hopkinsville effort with 13 points. Jayon Bass and Layton Giltner added 10 points each. Curtis Dillary had 9.
Ohio County was led by Ryan Durham and Tate Abney with 18 points each.
Hopkinsville (0-1) will get back to work Friday evening on the road at Caldwell County.
