Two UK Commits Flip to Start Expected Tumultuous Week for Cats

Kentucky’s expected tumultuous offseason certainly got off to a rocky start Sunday.

One day after UK ended a 4-8 season with a 41-14 loss to Louisville, the Cats lost two commitments from their 2025 recruiting class — running back Marquise Davis and offensive lineman Tucker Kattus.

The losses were big for various reasons. First, both are from Ohio — a hotbed for UK recruiting. Second, Davis is a four-star player and potentially the face of UK’s recruiting class. Third, Kattus has two older brothers now playing at Kentucky.

Davis flipped to SEC rival Missouri while Kattus switched to Clemson.

“I like the culture and how God surrounded they are,” Davis told PowerMizzou.com on Sunday night. “I want to keep myself surrounded by good, well-rounded people.”

Ouch. That’s a major shot at the Kentucky program/culture.

The 6-1, 205-pound Davis is a top 200 prospect and ranked as high as the nation’s seventh best running back. He was the Ohio Gatorade Player of the Year as a junior.

Kentucky has a huge need for offensive linemen and the 6-5, 285-pound Kattus seemed like a lock for Kentucky and committed in March. Ironically, Clemson has had seven players de-commit in this recruiting class. Clemson has 14 commitments and the nation’s No. 33 class, which is rated behind UK — as of today.

Combine these two recruiting hits along with speculation about which assistant coaches might be considering a move despite coach Mark Stoops saying Saturday that he wanted to keep his staff intact and it was another bad day for UK football.

  1. If he keeps his staff in tact, he is definitely showing he is the biggest problem. With the lack of discipline and basic fundamentals, there has to be changes.

  2. First off we need to fire Wolford. Secondly we need to fire the secondary coach and Stoops brother the linebacker coach. We also need to take a deep look if we can improve on offense. If that’s the best Bush can do I don’t see him making any improvements in year 2. Is cutter going to be the starting quarterback and if he is do you think he can win games in the SEC as a Redshirt freshman? Idk he looked terrible against Louisville and SEC schools are usually much better than Louisville personnel wise. I’d I think we need to hit the portal and look for a winning quarterback. I don’t care about how many stars they were ranked in high school. A proven winner at the college level. Vanderbilt is a perfect example of having a quarterback who does whatever it takes to win. If they would have even had a average defense they would have won at least 10 games. We need to find a winner who’s a senior and can lead the team if Cutter isn’t ready. I thought he was going to take over as a redshirt sophomore. They might be jumping the gun with him. Idk. If we can keep Wilcox and Patterson. And also Maclin and Gilmore. We will be pretty good at receiver next year. Especially if Brown or Key come back for there senior year. Which they should. Then add a couple more receivers in the portal. We would be fine then Keep Rodriguez and Anderson at the tight ends. Dingle and Kattus suck. Especially Kattus who is very slow and sucks at blocking and running routes. Our C gap gets destroyed when Kattus is in the game I really don’t see what they see in him. I think they like him as a person is why he plays.

  3. Stoops handed out nails for the UK FB coffin he has built the past 3 seasons when he said he wants to keep all the coaches.

Was Stoops at the games when UK proves it did not have an OC or OL coach or secondary coach? How could he miss it and then say he wants to keep the losers!

The slap in the face to UK FB in the Stoops-led decline is double!!
The RB complimented Mizz be built around God which compared UK, the team he de-commited from, is so telling about the locker room culture collapse!

Kattus KNOWS how his brothers were not properly used and has surely heard from them about the mistake it would be to be at UK as the nosedive goes deeper into the cellar. Kattus at TE seldom got the ball passes to him but was a winner in catching the ball and getting yards whereas the WR group either ran bad routes or dropped passes right in their hands.

Stoops (endorsed and guaranteed pay by the hapless AD) will sink UK deep into the bottom of the SEC cellar and it will take 10 years to try to get to 6-6 again.

  4. I say leave stoops alone look at his record in past years and let him bury himself or become a hero if his record is as bad next year asvthis year then fire him all of the folks who say fire him are nothing more then fans who wnt perfection and that is hard to come by ⅞

  5. Maybe one of the reasons the UKcoaching staff is so weak, Stoops may be finding out that no one wants to coach for him.

    1. The OC “pool” is surely limited because of the historically bad revolving door under Stoops.

Neal Brown is now gone from WVU. Stoops should offer him a deal where he guarantees in writing that the OC will not be approached by Stoops during the entire contract term unless requested by Brown.

HOW TO START RECOVERING UK FB:
Stoops should also offer $3 Million of his own money and allow Brown to choose and hire the new OL coach.

  6. All the whiners that exist in the world today is so pathetic. The really sad part is they all think it’s ok. They are entitled to whine if they don’t get what they want. Just like a bunch of 3 year olds. Stoops Troops!
