Hopkins County Central Rally Falls Short at Muhlenberg County

The Hopkins County Central Storm very nearly pulled off an amazing comeback in their season opener on the road at Muhlenberg County. Davonyae Butcher knocked down five 3-pointers and scored 21 points in the final quarter alone but it was just not quite enough as a furious Storm rally came up just short in an 86-76 loss to the Mustangs.

The Storm entered the fourth quarter trailing 67-48 but made things more than interesting coming down the stretch. By the midway point of the quarter, Hopkins County Central had cut the lead to 11. With two minutes to go in the game, the Storm had pulled to within just two points at 78-76.

The Storm actually came up with a steal and had a chance to tie but could not convert the opportunity. From there, Muhlenberg County finished out strong at the free throw line to take the 10 point win. The Mustangs hit 7 of 8 at the line in the fourth and for the game, they were 20 of 22.

Muhlenberg County took control of this one early, outscoring the Storm 24-10 in the opening quarter. By the half, the lead was up to 20 points at 47-27.

Davonyae Butcher finished the game with 34 points to lead Hopkins County Central. Sylas Gunn chipped in with 17 points. Lake Sumner knocked down a couple of shots from behind the 3-point line and ended up with 8 points.

Muhlenberg County was paced by Gunner Revelett with 34 points. He was 11 of 12 at the free throw line, including 5 of 6 in the fourth quarter. Isaac Coates added 16 points for the Mustangs.

Hopkins County Central (0-1) gets back to action Thursday night hosting McLean County.
