There’s something about Davaree Gude playing Fort Campbell that means a big night for the Trigg County junior.

Back in September, Gude ran for a school-record 346 yards in Trigg’s 35-26 football win over the Falcons.

On Tuesday, he scored 25 points, grabbed 17 rebounds, and handed out seven assists as the Wildcats downed Fort Campbell 73-70 in overtime on post.

The win gave Michael Fraliex his first win as Trigg County coach and was a nice bounce back from Monday’s season-opening loss to St. Mary.

Gude scored all nine of Trigg County’s points in the second quarter and kept the Falcons from pulling away as they turned a 21-20 first quarter advantage into a 32-29 lead at halftime.

Gude added eight points and four rebounds in the third quarter as the Wildcats outscored the Falcons 24-14 and built a 53-46 lead.

Landon Swann scored all nine of his points in the same frame as Trigg used a 10-0 run to build a pair of nine-point leads.

However, Fort Campbell’s Eric Greene and Israel Dillard combined to score the Falcons’ first 15 points of the fourth quarter that saw them grab a 61-60 lead with 2:22 left.

The Falcons played in foul trouble throughout the game, losing both Greene and Dillard to five fouls along with Tyreek Anthony. They left the game with a combined 41 points.

The fourth quarter featured eight lead changes and four ties.

The game was tied at 65 with 1:13 left and both teams got chances to win the game in regulation but couldn’t come through with the winning bucket.

In the extra period, four Wildcats scored. Gude gave Trigg a 71-69 lead with a minute left and the Falcons converted one of two free throws to make it 71-70.

A Trigg turnover gave the Falcons the ball back with 21 seconds left but an errant entry pass was deflected by Lance Breckel to Swann who fed the ball up the floor to Carter Sheperd whose bucket was the clincher with four seconds left.

Breckel finished with 12 points, and Slaton Carter scored eight of Trigg’s 12 bench points. Shepherd had the other four.

Four Falcons reached double figures. Greene led with 19 points and five steals and Dillard and Anthony both scored 11 before fouling out. J.P. Perryman scored 12 points and yanked down nine rebounds.

Both teams had their early season issues. They attempted 23 shots from behind the arc. Fort Campbell hit six and Trigg made five. The teams also combined for 53 turnovers and shot just over 50% at the free throw line.

Trigg outscored Fort Campbell 44-40 in the paint, while the Falcons owned a 37-33 rebound advantage.

Tuesday’s game was the first between the schools in four years and Trigg has won five straight against the Falcons.

Both teams have road games on Friday – Trigg County at Todd County Central and Fort Campbell at Livingston Central.
