
A 23-0 run in the first half allowed Whitesville Trinity to open up a big lead at halftime, and the Lady Raiders went on to post a 61-27 triumph Saturday afernoon at Dawson Springs.
The Lady Panthers showed fight in the first quarter, staying within 11-10 before Trinity’s big run.
But the Lady Raiders opened up a 22-10 lead after 8 minutes.
A strong defensive stand by the Lady Raiders in the second period stretched the lead to 37-15 at halftime. The Daviess County school surrendered just five points in the quarter.
Trinity continued to shut down the Dawson offense after the break, leading 51-19 through three quarters, and hit the 35-point mercy rule in the second half on the way to the 34-point victory.
Sarah Payne and Preslee Meserve led the Lady Raiders with 11 points each while Ella Morris had two 3-pointers in the third quarter and finished with eight points.
Ashton Swatzell was the leading scorer for the Lady Panthers with six points while Briley Sawyer, Bailey Swatzell and Emmie Colson each had five points.
The loss gives Dawson Springs an even record at 1-1 this season while Trinity gets its first win and is also now 1-1.
The Lady Panthers, who had opened the season on Monday with a 38-36 win over Christian Fellowship School, will go on the road for the first time this season when they travel to Mayfield on Tuesday.
The Lady Raiders will continue their road trip on Monday when they go to Apollo.
