A blistering hot start for the Fort Campbell Falcons did not continue into the second half Monday night, allowing the McLean County Cougars the chance to come back. And that is just what the Cougars did, rallying from a six point halftime deficit to take a 72-58 win in Calhoun.
The Falcons came out with their shooting eye focused. Fort Campbell shot 66.7 percent from the field in the opening half. The Falcons led 18-10 after the first quarter and then 32-26 at the half.
The Falcons were 14 of 21 from the field in the opening half, hitting 13 of 17 from inside the arc and 1 of 4 from outside. Tyreek Anthony and Israel Dillard combined for 25 points in the opening half.
However, the Falcons’ hot start from the field cooled off after the break and back came the Cougars.
The McLean County defense did the job in the third quarter, limiting the Falcons to just seven points as the Cougars came back to take a 45-39 lead after three.
Then the Cougars got hot over the final eight minutes. McLean County went 11 of 14 from the field in the fourth quarter, including 3 of 3 from behind the 3-point line as they pulled away to take the 14 point win.
Tyreek Anthony had another big night for the Falcons with 22 points. Israel Dillard also hit double figures with 15. Eric Greene added 6 points.
The Cougars were led by Jax Lee with 22 points. Zane Decker added 17.
Fort Campbell (1-3) is back in action Thursday night at home against Whitesville Trinity.
