The Hopkinsville Tigers were on the verge of picking up their second win of the season Tuesday night. But then things got away from them. Muhlenberg County pulled off a big 4th quarter rally to come from behind and knock off the Tigers 59-56.
Hopkinsville entered the final quarter of the game leading 43-34 and things appeared to be rolling in the Tigers’ direction. But the Mustangs got rolling in the fourth and got enough done to come away with the three point win.
Both teams had their offensive struggles early on in the game. Muhlenberg County led 9 to 7 after the opening quarter.
Jonathan Hart and Jayon Bass found their strides in the second quarter, scoring 6 points each as the Tigers took a 23-22 lead at the half.
Hart came out of the break still rolling and added 8 points in the third quarter. That helped the Tigers pull out to a nine point lead and Hopkinsville looked to have the Mustangs right where they wanted them.
But the Mustangs offense got going over the final 8 minutes. Kason Morris and Jaden Edwards combined to score 16 points in the fourth leading Muhlenberg County all the way back to take the three point win.
Hopkinsville’s Jonathan Hart led all players in the game with 21 points, including five made 3-pointers. James Bradley Jr. ended up with 10 points. Jonovan Leavell added 9 points for the Tigers.
Gunnar Revelett and Kason Morris tied for scoring honors for the Mustangs with 15 points each. Jace Sommers had 14.
Hopkinsville (1-3) is back on the court Friday night when they take on Henderson County in the Holiday Classic at Tiger Gym.
