The winning streak for the Lyon County Lyons continues to grow. The Lyons played their first home game of the season and opened 5th District play with a big 90-63 win over Livingston Central Tuesday night.

The win was the 4th straight to open the season and 20th straight going back to the state championship run of last year.

The win also continued a recent dominant streak against the Cardinals. With Tuesday night’s win, Lyon County has now won 17 straight in the series. The last Livingston Central win was back on January 19, 2018.

Both teams came out firing as the two squads combined to score 53 points in the opening quarter. Lyon County, led by a big start from big man Isaac Defew, took a 29-24 lead after the first eight minutes of the night.

Behind their outside shooting, the Cardinals were able to stay within eyeshot of the Lyons in the second. The teams went to the half with Lyon County up 46-39. Livingston Central hit seven 3’s in the first half of the game.

The Lyons then put the pedal down in the second half. Six different Lyons scored in the third as they blew the lead out to 67-54. The Lyons kept pulling away in the fourth as they ran out to the final 27 point margin.

Bray Kirk led four Lyons in double figures with 19 points. Isaac Defew finished with 16. Carson Collins had 15 points while Nolan Coffman had 14. Cooper Collins just missed double figures with 9.

The Cardinals were paced by Bryson Walker with 20 points. Mason Hargrove had 13 and Logan Wring finished with 12, all in the first half of play.

The 90 points scored by the Lyons was their highest offensive output since the 5th District championship game last season. That night, the Lyons put up 100 points in the win over Trigg County. The win was also the 5th straight time that Lyon County has scored 90 or more points in a game against the Cardinals.

The Lyons (4-0) will look to keep the streak alive as they go back on the road Friday night to take on Union County.
