Maroons Stay Unbeaten with Another One Point Win

At halftime of their game Saturday against Millington Central, the Madisonville-North Hopkins Maroons looked in serious danger of falling for the first time this season. The Maroons were down and looking for something to ignite a comeback to help them avoid their first loss of the season.

A big third quarter changed the flow of the game and the Maroons came back to pick up a 64-63 win over Milligan Central in the Ken-Tenn Classic at Murray High School. The win was the Maroons’ 6th straight to open the season and their 4th win by 2 points or less.

The first quarter was close with Millington Central taking a 15-12 lead after one. Led by Cody McGhee, the Millington offense got rolling in the second quarter, putting up 24 points and taking a 39-25 lead at the half.

Coming out of the half, the trio of Trashaun Smith, Landen Smith, and DeVonte Wilkes took over for the Maroons. The three combined to score 21 points and brought Madisonville-North Hopkins charging back. The third quarter ended with the Maroons closing the gap to 55-50.

With the moment started in their direction, the Maroons kept coming at Millington Central. In the fourth quarter, the Maroons limited Millington to just three field goals and a pair of free throws as Madisonville completed their comeback to the one-point win.

The win is Madisonville’s third one-point victory so far this season.

Five Maroons hit double figures led by Landen Smith with 15. Kanyon Johnson had 13. Trashaun Smith ended up with 12 points. DeVonte Wilkes scored 11 while Davin Chiers also hit double digits with 10.

Cody McGhee led Millington Central with 16. Tayshaun Dye added 11.

Madisonville-North Hopkins (6-0) is back at home Thursday night to take on the Hopkinsville Tigers.
