With only seven seniors on its 2024 football roster and some changes coming in 2025, Trigg County took time to honor the present and look ahead to the future at its annual postseason awards banquet.
The Wildcats were 3-7 and missed the playoffs for the second straight season. Not helping matters was a string of injuries that began in the preseason and extended into the regular season.
Freshman Timmy Williams was on pace to pass and run for over 800 yards before suffering a season-ending knee injury in the second week.
Freshman Caden Scott finished the season with 818 yards and 11 touchdowns, giving the Wildcats two options at the position next year.
Davaree Gude was named the Oustanding Offensive Player of the Year after rushing for 1,354 yards and 15 touchdowns. His rushing output was the 12th best in school history, ranking him ninth on the school’s career yards list.
Gude shattered the single-game rushing record with 346 yards against Fort Campbell and would have broken that mark two weeks later. He ran for 228 yards but had scoring runs of 80 and 60 yards called back due to penalties.
All told, Gude had four rushing touchdowns and a kick return nullified due to flags on the Wildcats that would have meant another 224 rushing yards.
A junior, Gude could join Greg Bridges, Al Baker, Kelvin Grubbs, and Brandon Bridges as the only Wildcat running backs with three 1,000-yard seasons if he tops that mark next season.
Trigg County is also set to return junior WKC selection Quin Baggett and Most Improved Offensive Player Thye White on the offensive line.
Sophomore Brody Calhoun was named the Most Outstanding Defensive Player and Headhunter Award winner after leading the Wildcats with 106 tackles, including six for loss. It was the second straight season Calhoun has led the Wildcats in tackles.
Junior John Stephens was named the Most Improved Defensive Player after a 41-tackle, two-fumble recovery season.
Trigg County is slated to return 10 of its top 12 tacklers on defense and 83% of its offensive yards in 2025 as well as Outstanding Special Teams Player Brody Renfroe, who was 16 of 18 on PATs and 2 for 2 on field goals. He also had five catches for 81 yards and a touchdown before a shoulder injury caused him to miss some games and finish the season as a kicker only.
One of the seven seniors Trigg County will have to replace is Connor Long, who earned the Mr. Wildcat Award.
The bevy of returning players comes at a good time for the Wildcats, who drop to Class 2A in 2025 for the first time since 2010.
The Wildcats will be in a district with Caldwell County, Mayfield, Crittenden County, Fort Campbell, and Todd County Central.
Trigg’s non-district schedule includes games with Ohio County, Hart County, Hopkinsville, Marshall County, and Fulton County.
