
Despite a strong start on Friday at the Stockyards Bank Challenge at Rowan County, the Christian County Colonels couldn’t maintain the momentum in a 72-55 loss to Breathitt County.
Looking for their first win of the season, the Colonels jumped out to a 15-8 advantage after the first quarter but were outscored by 11 in the second to trail 31-27 at the halftime break.
Breathitt County continued to build the margin in the third quarter to lead 56-38 with a quarter to play.
Austin Sperry scored a game-high 27 points to lead the Bobcats. Braxton Terry had six points and 11 rebounds, and Aaron Stallard came off the bench to finish with 18 points.
Kam Williams and Rahsean Stevenson finished with 15 points for the Colonels, and Stevenson pulled down nine rebounds. Zion Acree also reached double figures with ten points.
Christian County was outscored 36-18 in the paint and was beaten on the boards by eight.
The Colonels slipped to 0-8 ahead of a matchup with hosts Rowan County on Saturday. Breathitt improved to 4-2 with its second-straight win.
