The Wildcats tied a school record by not making a second half field goal in a 73-33 loss at Logan County’s H&H Holiday Hoopfest against the homestanding Cougars.
Trigg’s inability to solve Logan County’s press resulted in 26 turnovers and just 30 shots from the field.
It started well for the Wildcats as Lance Breckel canned a pair of 3s to help the Wildcats to a quick 8-0 lead.
However, as turnovers began to mount for the Wildcats, Logan County was able to put together decisive runs in each of the first three quarters.
The Cougars climbed back into the game with a 10-0 run at the end of the first quarter and the start of the second quarter. The nearly seven-minute scoring drought saw the Wildcats fall into a 26-16 hole.
Down 39-28 at halftime, Logan County started the second half with a 9-0 run to build a 48-28 lead. That would balloon to 59-32 after three quarters.
Logan County shot 54% from the field and got up 25 more shots than Trigg County.
Landon Swann led the Wildcats with nine points. Davaree Gude earned Player of the Game honors for Trigg County with six points, 10 rebounds, and three assists.
Hightower scored 11 of his game-high 24 points in the first quarter for Logan County, who snapped a three-game losing streak to the Wildcats.
Trigg County has failed to score 40 points in consecutive games for the first time in eight years. The Wildcats will look to snap their two-game skid Saturday afternoon against East Robertson, Tenn. at 3:00 in the first-ever meeting between the schools.
