Offense Struggles as Lady Colonels Fall to Daviess County

For the first half of their game Saturday night, both the Christian County Lady Colonels and the Daviess County Lady Panthers had trouble scoring against the other. Daviess County finally got its offense going and broke open a tight game at the half with a big third quarter on the way to a 53-28 win over the Lady Colonels in the Queen of the Commonwealth tournament at Bullitt East High School.

Both teams had trouble putting points on the board early on in this one. The first quarter ended with Daviess County holding a 7-6 lead.

The defenses continued to be the story in the second quarter. The Lady Panthers outscored Christian County 9 to 8 in the second to take a 16-14 lead into the break.

Anaysia Bagwell led Christian County at the half with 6 points while Kennedy Lane was tops for Daviess County with 8 points.

Things took a bad turn for Christian County in the third quarter as the Lady Panthers got rolling on the offensive end and put 20 points on the board while allowing the Lady Colonels just six as Daviess County blew the lead out to 36-20 going into the final eight minutes.

That momentum from the third quarter carried over into the fourth quarter as it got started as the Lady Panthers pulled away for the 25 point win.

The story was the Daviess County defense which allowed the Lady Colonels no more than 8 points in any quarter.

NeVaeh Day finished with 11 points and 6 rebounds for Christian County. Anaysia Bagwell added 7 points and Lazarie Daniel had 6.

Daviess County got 19 points from Lillian Hoagland. Kennedy Lane had 17 and Zoey Beehn added 9. Outside shooting was key in the second half for the Lady Panthers as they knocked down five threes as they pulled away for the win.

Christian County drops to 6-4 with the loss and will now take on Southwestern Sunday night.
