The City of Palms Classic in Fort Myers, Fla., has not been kind to Great Crossing, the preseason favorite to win the Kentucky state championship.

In the first round Great Crossing lost 90-39 to Christopher Columbus of Miami that featured Duke signees Cameron and Cayden Booker, who were both UK recruiting targets.

Moreno, the Kentucky Mr. Basketball favorite, had 10 points, six rebounds and three blocks against the Boozer twins. Cameron Boozer, a 6-9 forward, had 23 points and nine rebounds. His brother Cayden, a 6-4 guard, had 16 points and eight assists.

Kentucky fan Tonda Lawson annually attends the prestigious event in her hometown. She’s recently watched both Reed Sheppard and Travis Perry play in the City of Palms Classic.

“The Boozers were just in a different league from everyone else,” Lawson said. “Malachi also had a taped wrist which seemed to be bothering him. And there were lots of Duke fans already talking trash.”

In Friday’s game,  Moreno had 13 points on 5-for-9 shooting, 14 rebounds, five assists and two blocked shots in 31 minutes, 26 seconds of play in an 81-72 loss to Westminster Academy.

  1. Hopefully Pope can get a couple of good bigs in the portal. It’s obvious Moreno will not be ready for big time college basketball.

    1. Yes and I thought he was rated as Top or one of the Top rated centers as a 4*. The Twins and Dookies apparently did get in his head.
