The Madisonville-North Hopkins Maroons will probably be glad to stay on the southern side of the Ohio River for a while. A night after suffering their first loss of the season to Evansville Bosse, Evansville Reitz started fast and handed the Maroons their second loss in as many nights 87-44.
Reitz was rolling from the opening tip. The Panthers got a combined 19 first quarter points from Lavell Tinsley and Jayce Swanson as they bolted out to a 26-16 lead. Landen Smith kept the Maroons in shouting distance with 8 points in the quarter.
The Panthers effectively put the game away in the second quarter. The Reitz defense held the Maroons to just two field goals as the lead ballooned out to 51-20.
The Maroons played pretty much even with the Panthers in the third quarter as Reitz nudged the lead out to 68-35 heading into the final eight minutes of the game.
Reitz reserves got a chance to get their time on the court in the 4th quarter and pulled the lead on out to the final 43 point margin.
Landen Smith was the only Maroon to hit double figures with 13 points, including three made 3-pointers. Kanyon Johnson had 6. Vonte Wilkes, Davin Cheirs, and Trashaun Smith added 4 points each.
Lavell Tinsley was one of five players in double figures for Reitz with 21 points. Luke Lawrence and Jaylan Mitchell had 12 points each.
Madisonville-North Hopkins (7-2) will hit the road Friday to take on Perry County Central at Thomas Nelson High School.
