Butler Holds on to Hand Lady Colonels 3rd Straight Loss

The Butler Bearettes held off a second half rally to hand Christian County a third straight loss in the Lady Colonels final game in the Queen of the Commonwealth tournament at Bullitt East. Butler built a 10-point lead and then had to hold on tight to take a 54-49 win.

The problem of a slow start bit the Lady Colonels again in this one. Butler held Christian County to just three field goals in the opening quarter as the Bearettes took a 10-8 lead.

The Lady Colonel offense continued to try and find its footing in the second quarter. Butler held Christian County to nine points and extended the lead out to 27-17 at the break.

Christian County turned the defensive tables on the Bearettes in the third. The Lady Colonels got a balanced effort on offense and held Butler to just three field goals on the other end as they pulled to within 37-35 going into the final quarter.

Butler got a couple of big 4th quarter threes from Keziah Renee and made 5 of 7 at the line to hold off the Lady Colonels and take the five-point win.

Christian County got 14 points from Anaysia Bagwell. NeVaeh Day ended up with 9 points and was named to the ‘All-Tournament Team.’ Lazarie Daniel had 8 and Genesis McGee added 7.

Butler was led by Keziah Renee with 18 points. Anieja Russell added 14 points and Makayla Alexander had 13.

Christian County (6-6) will be back in action Friday in another big holiday girls’ event. The Lady Colonels will open play in the Lady Invitational of the South at Allen County-Scottsville taking on Portland.
