Offensive struggles Sunday night put the Christian County Lady Colonels in an early hole they could not dig out of. Southwestern limited the Lady Colonels to just three points over the first 8 minutes of the game on their way to a 51-39 win in the Queen of the Commonwealth tournament at Bullitt East.
The Warriors allowed just a Lazarie Daniel basket and a DaNiya Bradley free throw for Christian County in the first quarter as they built a 10-3 lead.
The Lady Colonels battled back in the second quarter, knocking down three shots from behind the arc to trim the lead to 23-18 at the half.
Mollie Osborne scored 7 in the third quarter for Southwestern as the Warriors nudged the lead out to 9 points by the end of the quarter at 37-28.
Christian County could not mount a serious charge in the fourth as Southwestern held on to take the 12 point win.
Lazarie Daniel was the only Christian County player to hit double figures with 11 points. NeVaeh Day had 8 points and Anaysia Bagwell added 5.
Southwestern’s Kinsley Molden led all scorers with 23 points. Mollie Osborne added 9 points.
Christian County (6-5) wraps up play in the tournament Monday afternoon taking on Butler.
