Kentucky locked up a defensive commitment it hopes will help bolster its pass rush for next season and help offset the loss of key players to graduation (JJ Weaver), the NFL draft (Deone Walker) or the transfer portal (Keeshawn Silver).

Kameron Olds, a 6-4, 240-pound edge rusher from Kent State, was ranked among the top 10 edge rushers in the transfer portal and Monday he picked Kentucky over Ole Miss, Nebraska, LSU and Mississippi State.

Earlier Kentucky had added Marshall linebacker Landyn Watson as coach Mark Stoops and his staff seem to be valuing playing experience even at a lower level or simply added backup players off Power Five teams.

Last season Olds had 42 tackles, including 25 solo stops, along with six quarterback sacks and one interception. He was able to disrupt foes with his aggressive style and pass rush pressure.

Even with Weaver, Walker and Silver, Kentucky often had trouble generating a consistent pass rush last season when it finished 4-8. Kentucky has been near the bottom of the Southeastern Conference the last few years in putting pressure on opposing quarterbacks but now Stoops and defensive coordinator Brad White obviously believe/hope Olds can help change that with his length, speed and power.

  1. Weaver hasn’t looked like the Weaver that was playing great football his redshirt sophomore and junior year! He couldn’t even get more than 5 sacks the last 2 years. Anyways lol kameron olds is a little faster than Weaver which should help out tremendously. If Weaver would have been just a little faster he would have been unstoppable. I can’t count how many times I seen the quarterback get rid of the ball right before Weaver came crashing in. He had nice moves but no speed. This guy looks like the brings the speed that we so desperately need on defense. I’m excited. I also like the cornerback that started for Maryland.
