
Trigg County struggled to find the bucket in the second and third quarters as Apollo handed the Wildcats an 87-45 loss in the opening game of the Rafferty’s Double Dogs Caveland Classic at Edmonson County on Thursday.
Apollo outscored the Wildcats 27-6 in the third quarter, turning a 44-24 halftime advantage into a 71-30 lead that triggered the running clock against Trigg for the third time in their last four games.
Trigg County shot 42% from the field but turned the basketball over 28 times as they try and fill a void at the point guard position.
Caleb Fogle was the lone Wildcat in double figures with 10 points, while Slaton Carter added nine points and three rebounds. Davaree Gude scored five points and grabbed five rebounds for the Wildcats.
Apollo saw four players score in double figures led by sophomore Tate Powers’ 19 points, hitting three of Apollo’s eight 3-pointers.
The Eagles improved to 3-0 against Second Region teams this year and have won two of the three career meetings with Trigg County – all in the last three seasons.
Trigg County returns to play in the Caveland Classic on Friday at 3:45 in Edmonson County’s middle school gym.
