Dawson Springs Wins Opener in Swauger Holiday Classic

The Dawson Springs Panthers unwrapped presents Wednesday and then came out Thursday and ‘unwrapped’ their 4th win in the last five games. The Panthers had three players reach double figures in a 67-56 victory over Bellevue in their opening game of the Swauger Holiday Classic at Bellevue High School.

Behind a big start from Easton Bourland, the Panthers took an 18-11 lead after the opening quarter. Montgomery Johnston and Rex Blue got going in the second quarter as Dawson Springs extended the lead to 37-25 at the break.

Bellevue fought to stay in the game in the third quarter. But, the Tigers could not make much headway, cutting the lead to 53-43 going into the fourth quarter.

Dawson Springs turned back any potential comeback from Bellevue by going 8 of 9 at the free throw line over the final eight minutes as the Panthers went on to take the 11-point win.

Montgomery Johnston led the Panthers with 24 points. Rex Blue added 20 points and 10 rebounds. Deacon Dever hit double digits with 13 points. Easton Bourland added 8 points for Dawson Springs.

Bellevue was led by freshman Jordan Watson with 23 points. Adam Kues chipped in with 11 points.

Dawson Springs improves to 5-4 with the win.
