The Christian County Lady Colonels used a ‘Day’-time performance to put an end to their three-game losing skid. NeVaeh Day had 20 points and 8 rebounds as the Lady Colonels knocked off Portland 47-43 in a defensive battle in the opening game of the 2024 Lady Invitational of the South at Allen-County Scottsville High School Friday morning.

Day also had 4 blocks, 2 steals, and 2 assists in the win.

Portland took a 15-13 lead after the opening quarter but saw Christian County come back to take 26-23 lead at the break.

The story of the game was the Lady Colonel defense in the second half forcing Portland into a horrible shooting half. After hitting 42.9 percent in the first half, Portland only connected on 25 percent of their shots in the second half and was 0 of 5 from behind the 3-point line.

The Lady Colonels shot 42.3 percent in the first half and cooled off some in the second half but did not go nearly as frosty as did Portland, still making 38.9 percent of their field goal attempts after the break.

Christian County extended the lead in the third quarter to 37-32 and then fended off any comeback attempt from Portland in the final quarter.

In addition to Day’s big game, Christian County got 10 points from Anaysia Bagwell and 8 points from Lazarie Daniel.

Portland was led by Taya Totten and Nyaluak Pal with 13 points each.

Christian County picked up the win despite being outrebounded 38-28 in the game.
