The Lyon County Lady Lyons are now officially one of the hottest teams around. The Lady Lyons picked up their seventh straight win Friday evening with a 55-43 win over Lexington Henry Clay in an opening round game of the 2024 Kelly Holiday Classic.
The Lyon County defense limited Henry Clay to eight points in the opening quarter as the Lady Lyons built a 14-8 lead. The defense repeated the feat in the second as the Lyon County lead grew to 27-16 at the half.
Henry Clay finally got some offensive flow going in the third quarter and trimmed the Lyon County lead to 41-32 heading into the final quarter.
The Lady Lyons sealed the win in the fourth quarter with a big effort from Piper Cotham and a 5 for 5 shooting performance from the free throw line.
Piper Cotham finished the game with 22 points and 3 steals. Trinity Taylor added 15 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 steals. Jenna Coursey totalled 11 points and 6 rebounds. Courtney Collins had just 4 points but pulled down 12 rebounds.
Jayden Jeffers led Henry Clay with 13 points. Brinley Dumphord added 11 points for the Blue Devils.
Lyon County moves to 8-1 with the win and will take on Lexington Lafayette Saturday afternoon in the championship bracket semifinals.
