Junior Lay Mayes poured in 28 points as Mayfield’s girls defeated Carlisle County 51-34 Friday in the opening game of the 2024 West Kentucky Hoops Classic in Princeton.
The Lady Cardinals built an 18-9 lead after just 8 minutes and took a 31-18 advantage to halftime.
Mayfield was up 43-29 after three periods and never allowed the Lady Comets to make a run in the second half.
Lex Feagin added seven points for the Lady Cardinals, who are now 8-1 and have won three straight.
Carlisle (3-5) got 13 points from Gracyn Edging.
Both squads will return to the Hoops Classic on Saturday.
The Lady Comets take on host Caldwell County at 11 a.m.
Mayfield faces South Panola (Miss.) at 2 p.m.
